Eden Springs Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

88+ points

High Eden, Adelaide Hills, South Australia. 14%

Dark syrupy concentrated Cabernet. With currenty fruit, some sweetness but not cloying. Good potential. Oddly dropping crust, is this due to lack of filtration or what?

9 months later. There is a distinctive older SA, Penfolds, sort of character emerging in this wine. I can’t see this making old bones. I think it’s to do with added acidity. They should have picked a tad earlier, and/or done something in the vineyard to let them harvest flavoursome grapes with a lower alcohol and higher acid. Pity to see a great vintage in a cool region not hit its full potential.
