Chateau Gloria 2004

90+ points

St. Julien, Bordeaux, France. 13%

Modern fresh, reeking of new oak. In spite of this I’m impressed there is real substance and chewy chocolately tannins, yet balancing acidity. I’ve not had Gloria for years, and thought it a bit over-rated as a bargain of Bordeaux, but yes it is like a classed growth.

  1. Almost a year later and it’s the same wine. Sort of Mouton like in its use of flashy sweet oak. Great sweetness of fruit counters the heavy oak, and overall it’s very approachable in spite of its concentration. I wouldn’t want to drink this style often, but now and then it is enjoyable.
